Notice of Meeting/Workshop Hearing

The Florida Department of Education announces a public meeting to which all persons are invited.
DATE AND TIME: March 15, 2011, 8:30 a.m.
PLACE: The Florida Capitol, 400 South Monroe Street, Room LL03, Tallahassee, Florida
GENERAL SUBJECT MATTER TO BE CONSIDERED: The meeting agenda will consist of approval of minutes of the State Board meeting held February 15, 2011, and updates on various reports and status of education initiatives by the Chairman and Commissioner. The Commissioner’s Report will include the following items: Updates on Differentiated Accountability, Race to the Top, 2011 Legislation, and a report on Charter Schools and related current legislation. Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam will be recognized to discuss his current initiatives relating to the school food service program. Items for consideration include action relating to the following rules: Approval of Rules Relating to Reading: Rule 6A-1.094221, Alternative Standardized Reading Assessment and Use of Student Portfolio for Good Cause Promotion; Rule 6A-1.094222, Standards for Mid-Year Promotion of Retained Third Graders; Rule 6A-5.090, Content Area Reading Professional Development and Next Generation Content Area Professional Development; Rule 6A-6.053, K-12 Comprehensive Research-Based Reading Plan; Rule 6A-6.054, K-12 Student Reading Intervention Requirements; Approval of Amendment to Rule 6A-6.03312, Discipline Procedures for Students with Disabilities; Approval of Amendment to Rule 6A-6.0333, Surrogate Parents; and Approval of Amendment to Rule 6A-6.0361, Contractual Agreements with Nonpublic Schools and Residential Facilities. Other items for consideration include: Approval of St. Johns River State College’s Request for New Site Designation of the Downtown Palatka Special Purpose Center; Approval of Broward College’s Request for New Site Designation of the Southwest Center and the Administrative Special Purpose Center; Approval of Distance Learning Reorganization; Approval of Intervene Option Plans (Entering Year 3) for Duval County: Jean Ribault High, William Raines High, Northshore K-8, and Andrew Jackson High; Approval of the Minimum 2009-10 VPK Provider Kindergarten Readiness Rate; and Charter School Appeal: Community Green Charter School vs. DeSoto County School Board.
