Notice of Meeting/Workshop Hearing

The State Board of Education announces a public meeting to which all persons are invited.
DATE AND TIME: January 24, 2012, 9:00 a.m.
PLACE: Room LL03, The Capitol, 400 South Monroe Street, Tallahassee, Florida
GENERAL SUBJECT MATTER TO BE CONSIDERED: The meeting agenda will consist of approval of minutes of the State Board meetings held November 15 and December 19, 2011, and updates on various reports and status of education initiatives by the Commissioner. Items for consideration include action relating to the following rules: Rule 6A-6.0252, Use of Prescribed Pancreatic Enzyme Supplements; Rule 6A-6.0970, John M. McKay Scholarship for Students with Disabilities Program; Rule 6A-20.023, José Martí Scholarship Challenge Grant Fund; New Rule 6A-20.028, Florida Bright Futures Scholarshp Program; Rules Relating to Vocational Rehabilitation: Rule 6A-25.005, Assessment for Determining Eligibility and Priority for Services; Rule 6A-25.008, Individualized Plan for Employment; Rule 6A-25.009, Authorization for Services; Rule 6A-25.011, Comparable Services and Benefits; and Rule 6A-25.014, Physical and Mental Restoration Services. Other action items for consideration include: Approval of Gold Standard Career Pathways Industry Certification to AAS/AS Degree Statewide Articulation Agreements; Adoption of Resolutions Authorizing the Issuance and Sale of Not Exceeding $580,000,000 State of Florida, Full Faith and Credit, State Board of Education Public Education Capital Outlay (PECO) Refunding Bonds, 2012 Series (to be determined); Charter School Appeals: Odyssey Charter School vs. Brevard County School Board; Odyssey Charter School (High) vs. Brevard County School Board; Somerset Academy, Palm Bay vs. Brevard County School Board; and Somerset Academy, Palm Bay High vs. Brevard County School Board. Presentations will be given on the Voluntary Prekindergarten Program; Marketing Plan for State College System; Calculations of Student Learning Growth Using Statewide Assessment Data for Use in School Personnel Evaluations; and Public Broadcasting Stations. Updates will be provided by a Representative of the Florida Association of District School Superintendents and Joe Pickens on behalf of the Council of Presidents. Updates will also be provided on Class Size and the Process for Reviewing Future Charter School Appeals.
