PURPOSE:

Revisions to Chapter 62-550, F.A.C. are being considered to ensure proper regulation for the use of reclaimed water in the state of Florida. Particular attention for the implementation of Direct Potable Reuse programs in Public Water Systems is important for these revisions proposed to Chapter 62-550, F.A.C.

SUBJECT:

The Division of Water Resource Management is proposing amendments to Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 62-550, entitled Drinking Water Standards, Monitoring, and Reporting, which regulates and ensures proper treatment, water quality monitoring, and testing methodology for the management of Public Water Systems. The proposed revisions will update the chapter to be consistent with other title 62 chapters, correct regulatory references, clarify current language, as well as identify the requirements for implementing treated reclaimed water as a source for Public Water Systems.
Two separate rulemaking efforts will be undertaken by the Department in order to amend the chapter. Phase I would address changes as outlined above. Phase II will address revisions to Chapter 62-550, F.A.C. and Chapter 62-555, F.A.C. necessary to adopt recommendations of the Potable Reuse Commission’s 2020 report “Advancing Potable Reuse in Florida: Framework for the Implementation of Potable Reuse in Florida” as required by the Clean Waterways Act of 2020.
